The medical use of marijuana has been adopted in many states, but the federal government announced that marijuana has no accepted medical use. Many advocates of marijuana legalization has been waiting for this decision. Although the decision goes against the medical use of marijuana, the advocates are in a way glad that they now appeal the decision in a court.
Marijuana has been classified as a Schedule 1 drug in the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. Igor Grant, a neuropsychiatrist at UC San Diego states that marijuana helps treat neuropathic pain and muscle spasticity.
Nonetheless, the DEA concluded that marijuana has no accepted medical use, Michele Leonhart, DEA administrator wrote that “At this time, the known risks of marijuana use have not been shown to be outweighed by specific benefits in well-controlled clinical trials that scientifically evaluate safety and efficacy.”
